Just for posterity, for RHEL 3 Update 9, I found the proper responses to be the following: Enter which kind of network device do you intend to use (e.g. ctc, escon, iucv, eth, hsi, tr): ---> eth Enter parameters you need to pass to the channel device layer. This includes the I/O ports of your c

z/VM 540 is at least supported on a z114... however running production zOS under z/VM is not really recommended so I have to ask why you are not considering upgrading zOS? That would also have to help simplify your System z push/pull process for the upgrade. Here is a quick high level z114 FAQ

I can answer #3. Yes z/VM 5.4 will run on a z114. We are running it on a z196 (big brother to z114), but we had to apply maintenance to z/VM 5.4. You can find a list of PTFs for z/VM 5.4 to support the z196 and z114 at http://www.vm.ibm.com/service/vmreqze.html Thanks.. Paul Feller AGT

Bob, I assume you are interested in SAN based storage, not direct attached (System z can do it either way). I'm only familiar with IBM storage, so the others on the list will have to chime in on other vendors. The FICON adapters in the z114 can run in either FICON or FCP mode. In FCP
