What is in your opinion the better way? Groups or constraints?

ha.cf is irrelevant here. Your CIB shows only one resource
(IPaddr_172_25_149_246), no sign of any xen resources.

Hello All,
I am setting up my first linux-ha system and have a question.
I want to use duplicity to create regular off-site backups by using it
with cron. Is there a way to check if the node is the active one so I
can put the script on both nodes but it will only run on one?
Thanks,
Chris.

Chris,
If you have an IP resource, run a script on both boxes, check for the
IP, if it exists do the backup, if it doesn't exist don't do the
backup. You could also use any other resource that you know is on the
active node - DRBD for example.

Hi people:
I'm a newbie in heartbeat and I don't speak English very well yet.
I'm getting started with two virtual machines (vmware) running Centos
5.2 and heartbeat 2.1.3. I'm working on heartbeat 1.x style without
crm and stonith configuration, and managing httpd and squid services.
I don't
I have made some luck getting STONITH to work but still running into

In the ha.cf on each host I have:

mds2-m.engin.umich.edu root PASSWORD
stonith_host mds1.engin.umich.edu
Hi Angel,
I have to ask the question, if you are new to heartbeat why start with outdated
versions, go straight to version 2, forget version 1.
just my opinion.

Yep, it's because I'm first trying to understand very well heartbeat
1.x before learning 2.x style. Using haresources it seems easier for
my simple requirements.
I'm just trying to troubleshoot two servers already installed with
heartbeat style. They aren't working correctly and even worst
Not to drag this out, but is it safe to assume this is expected behavior?
As I said earlier in this thread, I also see this behavior using 2.1.3

seemed counter-intuitive the cluster would simply restart the
resources on the same
Why don't you put the samba and drbd resources in a resource group, as the
samba will always be launched AFTER the drbd resource and filesystem ?
