Special thanks to Richard,
I found my problems with node-0.3.0! As I originally suspected it had to do
with the file permissions. /usr/sbin/node's permissions from the binary rpm
were set to 755. Using chmod I changed then to 4755, and the rest is
history. Symtoms were inabilty to use network dev

Well, he sent me output from the strace. After all the initial normal
system call type stuff, I can see where it connected to /dev/log, sent a
message indicating the program started, then did an _exit() shortly
thereafter. If there is nothing in the logfile regarding the exit (which

That won't work. Node needs to be installed setuid root and a normal user
can not strace a setuid program. And root can not run node at all...
(there is a way around this, namely th

The first thing is to check your system logs (probably /var/log/messages)
for an error message from node. There should

Try running it like this:
strace /usr/sbin/node >~/node-strace 2>&1
This will run a system trace on the program and output all information
in a file called "node-strace" that will be in your home directory.
Examination of this file should reveal the nature of the problem with
the program.

To all - an update
I just tried rebuilding the node binary package from src and installed
it and when I run /usr/sbin/node - it still dies with no errors.
Perhaps I need to get into the src, but I'm not much of a c programmer.

Greetings all, especially Toni:
When I run node as in /usr/sbin/node
it dies with no errors.
Any ideas why or how to diagnose?
