Ray,
Thanks, but no progress yet. I used dd to copy to an unmounted
ext2-formatted floppy the files created by mkbootdisk: boot.msg,
initrd.msg, ldlinux.sys, syslinux.cfg, and vmlinuz. I also copied lsh
(Little Shell, which I can run and get a "C" type prompt). The

Quick followup ... I wasn't thinking carefully enough before. Since you're
using syslinux, the floppy must be a DOS floppy. You can't mount a DOS
filesystem as root. One way to do what you want is to incorporate the
mini-shell into a .tgz package that initrd.img can load into a RAM disk it

Sorry, Haines. Perhaps someone else can help you with a definitive answer.
As I said, I was just telling you what to try based on the man-page
assertion that syslinux used this line the same way as LILO.
Some undefinitive rambling, though ... recall that "init" is the name of

Hi there.
Is there anybody here who knows how to configure MySQL for use both with
a webpage and with applications running on computers elsewhere on the

If so, would you mind giving me a one-on-one session to configure it
here, and also to set up a web page to look up entries in it and

I am using Knode as my news client. I am not able to post to usenet groups

server. How do I post? Thanks for the help. It could be off topic but I am
helpless.

I had a nice bootable floppy that was self-contained (held a kernel),
but I inadvertantly overwrote it and need to create another.
I used mkbootdisk , and it works in the sense that it
holds a kernel that boots my machine and loads my operating system
from hd.
However, I want to have it load a
Hi Riley and Richard,
I guess I was thinking along the right lines when I mounted
the 7.2 version whilst running the 6.1 version except that I
probably didn't mount it correctly because it didn't show up
in the /mnt directory. I'd like to down all of it and
restart ( to include a dos partition as
