Hello. Is there any way to add and remove scsi devices from an active md
device on-the-fly? For example: I wish to have a raid1 device set up for
backup purposes. When this filesystem gets full, I would like to pull one
of the mirrors out temporarily and write its contents to tape. Then,

Since nearly a year I'm successfully running RAID0 on 3 SCSI disks.
The speed of the array is nearly the double speed of a single drive.
This week I had to setup a RAID0 array using two IDE disks on a
pentium VX board. A single disk gives me 10 mb/s using busmaster dma.
But using two disks togeth

Actually, I was thinking of a Diamond Fireport Dual using
I use two SCSI partition(each 258M) as a raid1 device md1, and mount as /var
on my RH5.2 box.
When no crash occur, it works very well. But, when the unclean shutdown, it
must be fail at reboot. raidadd run OK, raidrun FAIL with
"md:09:01: raid array is not clean -- run ckraid".
Then I run ckraid(v
Just as a note, RAID-5 does not always give worse performance. Most disks
have a limit to the number of operations they can perform a second, if you
are dealing with a writing a large number of small files you can see an
improved performance using RAID-5 over a normal disk area in the following

This isn't really a RAID related question, but it really could be. Does
anyone know of any useful background performance checking utilities like
iostat, etc.? Thanks in advance.
