Robert, why are you running raid on 1 disk???
What benefit do you expect to derive from running raid on a single
disk?
Unless you have a special application, there is **NO** point to
creating a raid array from one disk.

I don;t know much about other open source backup solutions, but I can

Micheal;
Any chance of you providing a 'cookbook' on howto do this? Just an
illustration of the commands to execute and what to do in what order?
I think we could all use this, and I for one am planning on doing this
at work in teh near future. While I do not mind learn
Anyone else using this patch successfully? The 19990108 works fine
with a pristine 2.0.36 source, but the 19990128 compile fails. I can
post the errors, but wanted to ask first if there was an obvious known
reason for this patch not to work.
Thanks

I would be more than willing to do this, but I admittedly know
very little about linux-raid. I would be more than h
So Micheal, WHERE IS THIS BLOODY INFO DOCUMENTED?? HUH Do we
need to wait until you or some other 'sage' member of this group decides
to bless us with their info, or will you guys start making some half-assed
docs? (hey, I already have in my own small way, see my RAID1 cookbook of

out RAID (and more specifically, Linux
RAID
says that a system with a raid array *OF ANY KIND* should be UPS protected
with some sort of UPS montoring software enabled. No sense in going to the
effort of building a raid array only to lose all/some of your data to a
power failure.
Of course, YMMV

OK, in addition to my last post, upon rebooting my system (which
had a raid1 device functioning flawlessly thru 2 hours of testing), I get
teh following messages at boot:
Starting up RAID devices.
raidadd(pid 37) used obsolete MD ioctl, upgrade your software to use new
ictls.

OK, so having thought I had everything working, mke2fs -c /dev/md0
on the setup I have (see last message) returns:
mke2fs 1.12, 9-Jul-98 for EXT2 FS 0.5b, 95/08/09
/dev/md0: Invalid argument passed to ext2 library while setting up superblock
Agggh...
Hi;
After playing with RAID setups unsuccessfully for quite a while, I
think I finally have a raid1 setup working. What I would like to ask is
if the participants of this list could 'peer-review' my setup before I
make it (the raid system) a production system for my organization.
