Resolution:
Never did figure out what I was doing wrong, and another client needed a
new pfsense box, so I just ended up buying the USB to serial adapter and
gender changer from Netgate.
Was affordable, isn't the prolific chipset, and it totally works.
Big thanks to everyone!

Via the WebConsole you cannot make the make them part of the wheel group,
they are part of the admins group. Again same config on 2.2 works.
I have created a forum thread as well.

I should add the sudo works when logged in as root, but not any other user,
strange.

Maybe your 'user' is not a member of the 'wheel' group or whatever it is
called - the sudo eligible group.

Unless you’ve changed it, the baud rate on an Alix is 38400

I reloaded a new 2.2.1 image and I get the same thing. If I put a 4 gb card
with a new 2.2 image in it it works fine. If I put a different 4 GB card
with an older 2.0.3 version it works fine.
Is there an issue with the 2g image?

on APU1D4, 64-bit. Looks like the user stuff is all buggered up, it wasn't
creating the admins group, but am quite sure its got to do w/ permissions
and group membership.

Haven't changed it... This is a netgate branded Alix that came complete
from the factory.
The 2.2 update bricked it. I rewrote the latest 2.2 image to its 2 gb flash
card.
Tried 38400 but that spits out true gibberish.
The greek/cyrillic that I get at 115200 shows me the actual proper menu...

Since I know a number of you don't necessarily watch the blog and may
not be on the announcements list. 2.2.1-RELEASE is now available.

I’m trying to setup NAT on the OpenVPN tunnel, but I couldn’t get it to work.
NAT on LAN works normal.
I’ve setup a new interface incl. outbound NAT and named it WAN2.
WAN2 external, let’s take 2.2.2.2.
So, for testing, I tried with port 22 forwarding onto an internal device.
Connecting
