Hi,
i think it would be great to get more information about server hardware.
in my opinion this is an important question and perhaps one of the first
questions people ask if they want to set up a lts system. (calculing
cost, performance, for example) . there is a little information on the

Tim,
I'd suggest trying a different hub, or a cross-over cable directly
betwen the server and workstation,
just to rule out any negotiation problems between the Linksys card and
the hub.
Other things worth trying are:
1) Try a different slot in the computer
2) Try the Linksys card in a diff

This server is down in Fla, which is the only reason I've been hesitant to
try upgrading... if I mess something up bad enough, I may have to fly down
there.
How do I find out if I have another display manager running?
Thanks for the help

Charles,
the '5' is NOT 5 minutes.
The '5' indicates the runlevel that service is for. That is, when the
system
is in runlevel 5, the /usr/bin/kdm service will be started.
I think Bjorn is onto something here. I'll bet you still have another
display manager running. What distro/version are

Hi,
I 've set up my network as suggested and the client won't boot.
On the server log you can see a DHCPDISCOVER from the client and DHCPOFFER response from the server but the client never accepts this. if I use an e
you could just download a image file for the realteck rtl8139 net card from

it is more easy. You can obtain a floppy bootable rom image ready to use.

Hi Bjorn,
Ok, so...
Here's the pertinent part of my inittab - it looks like the very last line
is what you were talking about - so I should comment this out?
# Run xdm in runlevel 5
# xdm is now a separate service
x:5:respawn:/usr/bin/kdm
I take it the 5 is 5 minutes?
Thanks!

Charles,
The MARK messages are normal. The syslogd on the workstation is
configured to send a MARK
message every 60 minutes to indicate the workstation is still alive.
This probably isn't necessary.
You can edit the rc.local script and take out the '-m' arg on the
syslogd line.

Thank you in advance for your help!
What are the steps to install the printtool_rh70.tgz download from ltsp.org? I want to use this on a RedHat 7.0 system.
Thanks again!

If you know that you will always need this option, you can "hard code"
it into the NBI'd kernel using mknbi-linux --append="nomce"
