Glenn,
You need to include a 'filename' parameter in the
dhcpd.conf file. The workstation doesn't know that it
is supposed to download /lts/vmlinuz-2.4.9-ltsp-6
Take a look at http://www.LTSP.org/instructions-3.0.html
for more info on what your dhcpd.conf file should
look like.

Thanks to those of you who helped me get my DHCP server working, I did
indeed find the dumb errors and get it working! (I think :) So, I
plugged my new (heh) diskless workstation into the network, popped the
etherboot diskette into the drive, fired it up, and this is what I got

John,
You'd be surprised at what times you can find me awake.
A couple of guys on the ltsp development team are in
Australia, and somehow we manage to spend a fair amount
of time together.
That's the cool thing about IRC, you'll almost always
find somebody there ready to help.
Jim.

Thanks for the offer Jim.

John,
One more thing, While you are working on this, if you
have questions, come on over to the #ltsp IRC channel
at irc.openprojects.net, and I can give you some interactive

John,
Sounds like you've got a pretty good handle on what buildk
does. Just make sure that you start with fresh kernel
sources from ftp.kernel.org, rather than the kernel sources
that ship with your distro.

I have now!
I don't think mkintrd is part of ltsp.
I have now looked at the buildk script in the initrd_kit.
I looks as though it can be unloaded anywhere and run
in situ. buildk looks in /usr/src/linux-2.4.9-ltsp... for the
kernel source files and
Glenn,
I'm not a Mandrake user, but I think I heard something about
the latest version of ISC DHCP needing 'ddns-update-style = none'
rather than 'ad-hoc'.
I don't know if that could cause your problem, but it's worth
trying.

Oh jeez, I completely missed that.
yet another example of the strength of open source.
Give enough eyes, all bugs are shallow.

Hi Glenn,
I think your problem is the line:
'subnet 192.168.1.20 netmask 255.255.255.0 {'

I think what you are trying to do is:

I am trying to get LTSP to work on my Mandrake 8.2 box...I installed all
of the base packages w/o any issues, after first installing the DHCP
server and TFTP server from the Mandrake CD's. I pretty much let the
LTSP scripts configure everything, except as necessary for my network
configuration. Th
