Phil,
Please let me know if you succeed.I've tried to rebuild using the LBE and
new version of tg3 driver from etherboot.org but couldn't complete the
build on a box running fc3 (2.6.10-1.766_FC3 kernel)

While this is definitely a syntax issue, it isn't a problem. I read through
the source code that instanciates the Xrm resources from the xdm-config
file. Of interest is the section that checks for the first non-whitespace
character on a line. If the character is a !, it is immediately treated as

I never solved the problem directly; (I temporarily solved it by
sticking another PCI nic into the machine and floppy etherboot because
the GX280 bios won't allow netbooting except from teh onboard nic).
Jim's suggestion to put NIC=tg3 on the append line in
the /tftpboot/lts/2.4.26-ltsp-2/p
the following patches should be applied, plz notify me if they will be
accepted

Phil,
Are you using Etherboot ?
If you are using PXE, then you need to specify NIC=tg3 in the pxe config
file.
Assuming you are using the standard 2.4.26-ltsp-2 kernel, the
file is:
/tftpboot/lts/2.4.26-ltsp-2/pxelinux.cfg/default
You can put the NIC=tg3 on the end of the 'append' line.

I can confirm that the following addition to dhcpd.conf does not help@

Well, as far as I know, PDAs have their own Linux onboard (embedded or
so), Zaurus had one at least. If that's the case, you might log in on
the server just by using X itself. I'm doing that every day here in the
office, logging in to the server from my office computer which has an
older Linux

The Sharp Zaurus has a vnc client and an ssh client; you can connect to the
servers quite happily with these, provided there is a way onto your network,
