It seems that some on the list are managing large networks with 100 or
so users. How does one manage user accounts and desktop/application
settings for networks of this size?
I know you can use LDAP for account management. My problem is access to
applications, directories and files. How do I pr

Is there a way to run Firefox on the thin client?
I did some searching and couldn't find any information. Well, sort of.
It looks like you can install Firefox in /opt/ltsp/i386. However, there
doesn't seem to be any way to run it. I hope I'm wrong about this.

I would like to put Firefox and flash on the thin client. Is there a way

I fixed it. Unfortunately I can't remember what the fix was. I had to
install lib flash something. Anyway it works.

After messing with Ubuntu Dapper I switched to Edubuntu. According to

I need sound support. I think most of the sound will be in Firefox but
there may be a need for xmms and mplayer. It's all web based audio and
maybe some video. I know of two options
1. Configure sound from the server to the thin client
2. Setup local application support ( firefox )

I've got Ubuntu Dapper setup as an LTSP server. I installed the package
ltsp-server-standalone. I think that's LTSP version 5. I could be wrong.
My thin client boots fine. My next goal is getting local hardware
support configured. Here's what I need
1. Sound
2. USB ( for drives )
3. CD
I need Long Term Support. Thats why all my systems run Dapper. I hope it
works with LTSP 5. I'll give it a try in the next couple of days.
Thanks all.

Which one do I install?
I'm on Ubuntu dapper. I may try Edubuntu. They both have LTSP as a
package but it doesn't support some of the features I need.
1. Audio on the thin client
2. hardware access on the thin client
1. CD
2. USB drive

I ran into a problem. Some thin clients use PXE and some use Etherboot.
The Ethernet cards have options as well. The AOpen card uses Etherboot.
The Linksys card uses bootp. I'm not sure if bootp is

Does anyone know if Ubuntu Edgy supports local hardware and sound?
I like Dapper for its long term support but I was told it doesn't
support local hardware.
