Is it unusual for $UPSTART_SESSION to be empty for a user who logs into via
SCREEN_07="ldm"?
On the server when I log into the desktop and open a terminal "echo
$UPSTART_SESSION" is set to something like
"unix:abstract=/com/ubuntu/upstart-session//." but on the clients
(both fat and thin)

I've tried using "/drive:media,/media" to see if the usb stick would be
mounted at a different path under media but I observed the same results. I
also tried "sudo apt-get install -y usbmount" but could not seem to get
