This is a rather good description of the problem... you should check

I realized that afer I sent my last message. There is another resident
DHCP server on our network.
So you are most likely correct in that in round #2 it is sending its
request to the wrong DHCP server.
Is there anyway I can modify dhclient to point to a specific DHCP
server(e.g. the servers
Joseph,
an LTSP workstation will go through 2 rounds of dhcp requesting.
Once when the Etherboot bootrom starts its job.
Then, once the kernel has been loaded, dhclient will make
a second request.
Make sure you are seeing the DHCPDISCOVER twice, a few
seconds apart.
Jim.

The client is getting a DHCP response from the correct server.
/var/log/messages reports this on the server:
Oct 15 10:24:57 dblab dhcpd: DHCPDISCOVER from 00:00:c7:00:34:90 via eth0
Oct 15 10:24:57 dblab dhcpd: DHCPOFFER on x.105.102.90 to
00:00:c7:00:34:90 via eth0
Oct 15 10:24:57 dblab dhcp
Joseph,
Is it possible that the client is getting a response
from some other dhcp server on the net ?
I really should change the dhclient script in the initrd,
to report the IP address of the dhcp server that offered
the dhcp info.
Thanks,

I managed to get it going! My problem was a simple (and stupid) one. My other
DHCP server was mucking me up.
Thanks

Peter,
If you are getting an error about 'No root-path' then you are
definately NOT having a NFS or mountd problem. The workstation
hasn't gotten far enought to have that problem yet.
It is more likely that the /etc/dhcpd.conf file is missing
the 'option root-path' statement, or the workstati
Hi,
I have been trying to setup up a test LTSP system at home over the last few
days. I am running RedHat 7.2 as my server inside VMWARE as my server, ltsp-
core-3.0.5-0.rpm and ltsp-kernel-3.0.4-0.rpm .
I have an old pentium 66 that I am trying to use as the client. I have managed

jon,
Could be anything.
We need more info.
Your dhcpd.conf file looks fine, but I see you are using
your own custom-built kernel. Have you modified the /linuxrc
script at all ?
What distro/version is running on your server ?
