Indeed this Weiss might be Johann Sigismund Weiss. In one case he is even named as Jean Sigmund Weiss ... There are other non lute works of him in: Kassel (only incipits), Rostock, S-Harnösand (probably), S-Lund/Uppsalla, D-Herdringen, D-Karlsruhe (possibly). Best Markus Roman Turovsky

I'm chiming in late here but I think the operative words are slightly more experienced. An experienced student isn't necessarily incapable of teaching basics to a rank beginner. For example, my daughter's harp teacher allows a few of her oldest students to teach the very beginnning young
