[LUTE] Green's Almain?

2007-09-09 Thread Andrew Hartig
Does anyone know of lute or consort setting (or other setting?) of a Green's Almain? Yesterday I came across this mysterious piece of cittern tablature in my music stack. I noticed it was in Fronimo format, so I searched my computer and also found that I had the file! Either I entered it in

Does anyone suspend his or her lute from a wall? Is there a good, safe way to do this? Sure. First you have to put the wall in a snug-fitting, well- cushioned case... -- To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html

every now and then you see an oud up for auction on ebay with holes in the back which indicate that it had been screwed to the wall of some resturant with a middle-eastern theme - (gasp) - what a horrible thing to do to an instrument. i know people sometimes hang their guitars on the wall with

Only if you're a museum curator in charge of the instrument collection. Otherwise, if you want yourself and your friends to relish the physical beauty of an instrument, the proper way is to take it out of the case and play it. -Original Message- From: Stephen W. Gibson [mailto:[EMAIL

Thanks for the variously cute and patronizing replies. i play my lute daily, but in a tiny room where other musical instruments are scattered here and there. i hoped to get it off the stand where it might get knocked over. i have a mandolin i also play regularly and it's on the wall, but,

I did this for a few years in the past (hang them on a wall), and it is the only time I have had dryness related problems with my lutes. Yes, the instruments took up less space, and were very impressing in appearance in my studio, but as others stated, they then collect dust, and also get

Ed, thanks. Let me ask you this: do you think the problem with cracking is greater when on the wall than simply being in the room uncased? Stephen I did this for a few years in the past (hang them on a wall), and it is the only time I have had dryness related problems with my lutes.

I take lessons from Chris Henriksen in Boston, and all his lutes (and his wife's viols) are hanging on the walls of the music room. There's no way they all could be put in cases -- you'd need a room just for the cases. This room is de/humidified, and the instruments are hanging against tapestries
