Has anyone tried the mechanical pegs made by Pegheds? I have a customer
who is interested in replacing his traditional pegs with these. Any
comments are much appreciated.
Thanks.

I spoke with the maker of 'Peghed' mechanical pegs and he said the pegs
weigh 6 grams. Most wooden pegs way somewhere between 3 and 3.5 gram or
so. For an 8-course lute, using 3.5 grams per wooden peg, this would
add about 37.5 grams or just under 1-1/3 ounces.

Unfortunately, nlygut isn't made in all sizes.
For the .51 listed below use .52
For .77 use .79
for the .98 type D use 100
For .69 nylgut 6th course octave use .70
I, personally would use a 132 type D for the 6th course fundamental, but
128 is available.

I find that nylgut stretches and thins out, so it helps to go with a
little bit bigger string than the equivalent gut string to get a similar
tension. I'm not sure about the new nylgut, though. It's supposed to
stretch less.

I believe many, if not most, modern builders use hide glue for just about
everything on a lute, bridges included. I use it and most of the builders I
personally know use it.

I'm working on some Vallet preludes (CNRS edition) and I'm quite undecided

and also at 92. Suggestions please!
