I am a new lyx user and have been trying to print the
users manual.
In a previous post I pointed out a failure because latex
could not find file 'rotating.sty'. I have now
installed this file and also file 'url.sty' and now complaints
about missing files have gone away. Thanks for the

I have been using LaTeX for some time and am now switching to LyX. In
my first few attempts I have had a hard time getting some sample letters
I have written centered vertically on the page. Is this a feature of
LyX or am I doing something wrong? How can I influence this vertical
positioning
How can I get the fancyheaders package to start working on the first
page of my document?
Here's an example that does not seem to work even though I use the
recommended \thispagestyle{fancy} at the beginning of the first page.
Anyone have any ideas for me?

actually, it didnt work completely.
i put \sloppy at the beginning of a line and it made "system-s"
change to "sys-tems" which is certainly an improvement,
but \sloppy at the beginning of another paragraph had no affect
at all.
i then removed these and put \sloppy in t

places, such as "system-s".
can anyone tell me how i can disable all hyphenation ?
or is it possible to disable it on an individual paragraph
basis at least ?

Then that's the reason: when you have many margin par, LaTeX has to
keep track of all of them before it can find a place for them on the
page. It is not always easy...

Do you have a lot of these marginpars? It cause problems to LaTeX when
there are too many on a page.

I would appreciate help for a few questions (I'm new in Lyx):
-How and where can I change equation (figure) numbering? I would like
equations (figures) to be numbered 1,2,3,4...and not 1.1,1.2,1.3 where the
first number (1.x) is a chapter number.
-I would like to align set of equations at equa
