i need to supply two footnotes with the title and some more with the
authors of an article. however, i cant figure out how to convert the
footnotes from symbols to arabics? this seems to be tricky within the
title-section?

Quick suggestion. It is what I do all the time, with good results:
(1) export as latex
(2) put in a separate directoy all the stuff you need (latex file and bibtex
files).
(3) install tex4ht
