r user had this problem recently. The solution was to enable the
"Tablet PC Input" service of Windows.

use Insert>File>External Material and use the PDF pages options to import

You can use the Insert>Short Title command in your figure captions. The
short title is what appears in the LOF. You could thus exclude the source
from the LOF, saving space.

Then, for every new reference you add manually or download from a database,
just make sure to replace extended characters with LaTeX versions with
escaped diacritics and you should be fine.
