Hi Folks,
This is another instance where I must be missing something obvious. Is there a
key combo that can be pressed to force a link to open in a new browser window?
For example, if I'm on the macworld.com homepage and am navigating through the
list of stories and I decide I want to read one
Hi Bryan,
Either Command-Click or Command-Option-Click when you're focused on a link
should open the link in a new Safari window. Which one you use depends on your
Safari preferences settings for tabs. If you have the pop up menu selection

Text edit doesn't have a word count built in by default. However, I
have scripts on my softcon pages at (http://www.softcon.com/mac/)
that will let you perform this function. Alternatively, you can
download my version of text edit (also on that site) which will

Command+physical mouse / trackpad click to open a link in a new window, , but I
was hoping to find a keyboard alternative to doing this without using the
physical mouse / trackpad. i'm not counting the
Hi Ian,
Sarah's already described how to use spell-check. I also use an AppleScript to
do the word and character count in TextEdit, although not the same one as
Travis uses, I think. By the way, the link to the word count script at the
softcon site comes up with a File not found message.
Hay, thanks no not gone to lion my connection can't handle that download it's

Hi with this question in mind with pages can you see how many pages a document
has in pages? Is it possible to expand on that script to include page numbers
in a document?
I'm asking because for my college assignments I need to have word count and to
see how many pages I have written.

Yep. You can hit cmd option shift enter to open in a new window but you must
check press tab to highlight items in advance. If I'm wrong let me know as it
has been since the release of lion since I had to change the setting.

Hello Bryan,
The options that show up in a context menu have to be coded that way, I think.
I have a vague recollection from when iTunes was transitioning in accessibility
that there was an instance where the options that appeared with VO-Shift-M were
different from what you got when you used
It doesn't always work. I have to sometimes rout the vo to mouse and then
option click and even then I am lucky some of the time. I think they might have
changed some things in lion but again it might just be me. lol!

Hi Daniel,
The Document Inspector in Pages can tell you words, pages, paragraphs, lines,
characters, and sections either within your selection or within your whole
document, depending on how you have the pop up menu option set.
Of course, one way to check the number of pages in a printed
Hello David,
Best of luck in your PhD pursuit. The only advice I can offer regarding working
with tables is to suggest you consider taking a lesson or a series of lessons
from Anne Archie Robertson via Skype. They've developed some good procedures
