This can be done via a couple of third party Mac Apps which can be bought
from the Mac App store.
1. Mac2phone.
2. iKeyboard.
I prefer the latter as it allows you to fully control an iOS device. It
literally emulates a bluetooth hardware keyboard. The former I believe

I just tried to pair my MacBook Air with my IPhone 4S, and it told me that
the MacBook Air wasn't supported. Have others experienced this problem?

What are you trying to accomplish. To my knowledge you cannot pair a mac with
an ios device. I could be wrong as my knowledge of blue tooth is still not good
and it's constantly changing lol!
