The trick to quicktime spead up is to first adjust the speed, then
adjust the pitch to make it sound more normal. Quicktime doesn't
automatically adjust pitch with speed, so you need to do that part
yourself, but I think it turns out better for the experience, though

While I have used quicktime to speed up podcasts, I prefer the sound of the VLC
media player which to me sounds better when sped up.

has a window with controls that allow you to speed up playback, as
well as adjust other playback parameters, including pitch.
