Yes I have seen this too, and it happens in standard view also. I think it has
something to do with Mail sorting the items into newest first, previously the
oldest message would appear first. I have reported this to Apple, I suggest you
do the same.

I have found that, after a few days, the comApple Extra thingie goes away even
after restart. Before that, I just pressed command+tab to get rid of it.
As for your not being able to open the Apple menu structure, very strange.
That never gave me trouble.

I can confirm that this is happening for me too. First press of VO+F5 just
makes a tone if mouse pointer is anywhere in the menu bar. Second and third
presses behave as designed. Late 2010 MBA, Lion upgraded from SL.

Itunes works much better on the mac than it does in windows. However, I use the
