To add to this, space-o, space-e, and other KeySoft commands don't get passed to VoiceOver. To do that, you have to hit the pass-through command on the Apex. It's enter with, well, something. It's been years since I dealt with this, and I can't recall the command now. Try the letter I, maybe?

Try highlighting the drive itself in disk utility, be sure that you are selecting the actual drive, not a volume on the drive. Then choose erase and choose a guid partition, you can choose mac OS extended or Mac os extended journaled for the format. This should partition the drive for use on
