Hi Teresa,
If you are using Mavericks, you will need to download the new install package
from the macports sight.
You probably need to update XCode as well if you don’t have 5 installed.
Hope that helps.

Okay, here are the latest instructions I can find. But it's kind of a nightmare
in my opinion; you are supposed to uninstall and reinstall all your ports all
over again in the process! I haven't yet done this though I may decide I have
to at some point. What I've done so far is this:

Thanks, Barry and Cheryl. I’ll consider tackling this. :) I do have time on my

I don’t think it will take you much time. You shouldn’t have to reinstall all
of your packages. I just ran the new installer and everything works fine.
Downloading and installing XCode5 will take the longest.

Oh well, then, if you didn't reinstall all your ports, there's probably no need
to run the new installer either as long as you can find that gnutar file
somewhere and put it on your system. As for xcode, I already had that installed
but I had to check for updates and make sure command-line
Hi, all,
I have not even done a selfupdate for Macports in so long I don’t remeker the
last time I did it. When I try a selfupdate I get an error message about
execution failure. Is there another command I can use, or do I need to download
a package via another means?
Thanks,
Teresa

Actually, I think it's xcode you need to update and make sure the commandline
tools are updated. I'm really sorry to dangle this little carrot under your
nose and then tell you I don't have time right now to get the info together for
you but I'm just doing a very quick email check and dashing
No worries, cheryl. I have plenty of clues from that. I’ll check Xcode and see
if it’s up to date. If I have more questions, I’ll scream and yell and wave my
arms. :) Ok, I’ll ask for more help. :)
Thanks,
Teresa
