To make a new folder, first open the drive and then open the folder where the
new one will be created, if you don't want it on the root folder. Press command
shift n, this will place you in a text box where you can give the folder a
name, untitled is already there, just erase that and type the n
Well maybe that computer needed a scaring and that's what it got when you
rebooted.

The simplest way I have found to create a new folder is just to use
command shift and the letter n on the place where you want the folder. In
other words, if I want to create a new folder on my external drive in a folder
called, John's Documents, I'd just have John's Documents highlighted
