That was probably me. Yes, it is "Numeral System" not "Numerical
System." Some kind of communications issue between my ears and my fingers :)

For me, it worked with the cell format set to ‘Numeral System’ and the places
set to 6. I don’t have an option for ‘Numeric System’. I’m not sure if that was
a typo by others, or if perhaps Numeric gets changed to Numeral in an
Australian localisation.

Chris’s solution worked for me. The cell format has to be set to “numerical
system”, not “numbers”, for this to work. However, this will force a specific
number of numerical places to be displayed. For instance, if you set it to ten
and enter 001234, the cell will show as 001234. Setting the
Interesting. It worked here for me. What version of Numbers and OSX?

I tried your method, but that did not work.
However, a solution I did find that does solve my problem is changing the
data area to text, which will preserve all digits entered into a cell.

You would most likely have to create a custom Data format which allows for
leading zeros. How exactly this is done in numbers I am not sure but I don't
believe it has a leading zeros data format available.

You were close. In the Cell tab you want to change the Data Format to
Numerical System. It defaults to Base 10 but you want to change the next
input, Places, to six. That should keep your leading zeros.

Hello everyone,
I thought I would try to post my problem once more, to see if I get better
results from those users who are knowledgable with Numbers.
Please read my message carefully because suggestions that have already been
attempted, do not need to be restated as possible solutions. Since s
