Hi Jim,
From your description, it seems as if you might not have been following those
detailed instructions exactly. It might seem a little pedantic, but I suggest
you go back and have another attempt at following those numbered step-by-step
directions very closely. Slight changes can make the
Hi Nic!
I can't remember which message but some time back I did state that I followed
the directions from one of the messages and did not get the same results.
At this point it is faster for me to use spotlight to find what I need. I
think it is quicker and just easier now to not have to spend
Just to be clear, the method we're explaining won't allow you to search by
mailbox. That you need to do in the favourites bar. It will, however, allow you
to search by contact, subject, attachment, etcetera and give you various other
options.
Can you please tell us step-by-step what you are

search string it will probably find that search string but then when I

string it will search for that string but I
It has nothing to do with the view you are in; it works in both views for me.
Try:
Type a name which is in your contacts;
Press down arrow until you hear the full name read out;
Press return;
Press left arrow;
Press down arrow.
Anything then?

Hi Nic
Nothing when I followed those steps. I have no way to search by date or
mailbox or any of the other search features. I can do a spotlight search and
that works fine but it would be nice in mail. Not sure why it doesn't work the
way it is supposed to.
Thanks,
Jim

How are you getting to the search? The one I use is option-cmd-f while in Mail.

My only other thought is Quick Nav. Ensure that it is *off* before trying this,
or things may not work correctly.

Yep it is off. This is really puzzling. I re-indexed mail and still no
results. Weird but no ideas on this end.

While typing, I use up and down arrows to move between suggestions. This will
give suggestions, depending on what you typed, for contact's names, subject
lines etcetera. Once you have selected one, you can navigate past it with the
left arrow, and then use the up and down arrows again to choose
that's odd. When I press left arrow it just backspaces me through the item I
have selected. Any other suggestions?

It will move back through, yes, but down arrow once you are on it. The first
left arrow puts you on the name selection, the second on the addressing type
(to, from, etc) selection. Once you choose a name you don't seem able to choose
another, but the address type is always available.

I just tried this and I can't see any to or from field or anything just the
search terms that pop up but I can't do anything else with them. Wonder if it
has anything to do with classic view or some other setting that I might have.
Thanks,
Jim

Hi,
In Mail 7.2 (OS 10.9.2), is there a way to get to the search tokens /
terms when in the search box to look for messages (Cmd+options+f)?
While typing in the search field, I can up and down arrow among
suggestions, but I think I can also specify whether to look in any
particular field. I
