Hi, Sorry for being unclear. The "remove Now" should be in Mail Prefs, Accounts, Account Information pane. Pressing this button removes copies of messages from the server immediately instead of waiting for the schedule. It doesn't really address your issue, but will totally quash the idea th

Thank you, Tim, for your reply. I have only one active e mail account: the Verizon POP account I mentioned. I can't find the "remove now" button you mentioned in the Mail App's screen. If I look at the index of apps, select Mail, and press "Command-I" for information, I'm not seeing this button.
