different languages set up on my MacBook Air with my system running in English.
Fred is my preferred voice and that’s the one that was speaking after the
update. I do not have automatic language switching selected as
I also find Australian voices irritating,
But that is just the kiwi way.

thanks, will do that.
Doing an export of my preferred settings and then importing them did the trick.
You don't have to do that every time but if you have a backup saved of VO prefs

Michael, next time this happens, export the VO settings and send
that to Apple, it might help them find the source of the problem.

Understood but I disagree somewhat. Everything is always a work in
progress. So we find workarounds while at the same time, we keep after
Apple.
One issue never hear anyone complain about is how much Voiceover
repeats elements. One example might be Facetime. When you open it you

Yes, it’s a fix but it shouldn’t be happening. WE shouldn’t allow the slip in
accessibility to take hold. So we need to continue to pressure Apple to
preserve the accessibility we have won on Mac. platform. If we start trying to
fix things ourselves, there won’t be much of an incentive for App
I've not experienced this but you might try exporting the VO
settings to the desktop after its all set up. Then if the voice goes
south again, just activate that exported file and it will automatically
import itself. Do the export with VO Utility open, the command is on the
file menu.

Yes and yes again. Very tedious indeed.
