Hi,
Just set Webkit to the default in Safari Preferences so that every time you
open a link or whatever, it will use Webkit. You will have to use the Webkit
icon to open Webkit, though, as it is a separate application but uses Safari.
It just switches out the engine with a newer up-to-date
Ah. Thanks for that. I forgot avout that little trick. Thanks for that.

There is, and I just learned this myself last week.
Open either Safari or Webkit preferences and click the General tab. For the
Default Web browser, select Webkit from the drop down list. Voila! One thing
to bear in mind. You will alwyas get a thank you for testing Webkit page every

Hi Nic,
I forgot I have to use the Webkit icon to open it, sorry. That's what happens
if you try to do things before morning coffee :)!

Hi,
I use Webkit by default now, actually. That's really the best idea, I think,
personally, as you get the latest fixes and improvements. You actually do see
performance improvements as well, so the fact that VoiceOver might seem a bit
snappier wouldn't be a surprise.

Where can I get Web kit? And, is it something Apple approves of? And how does
one install it? Thanks much.

Yeah, and if you click a link in an E-mail and Web Kit is not open already, you
will have to click the link again, as the first click will just open Webkit
to the Webkit page. Not a big deal though. I have been using Webkit almost
exclusively for some time now.

Yes Apple approve it, Webkit is the open source engine that runs Safari,
Omniweb, Google Chrome, the web browsers on Nokia phones etc. To find out more

Hi,
I'd hope Apple approves of it, since it's their underlying engine for every
version of Safari. lol
The only difference is that, when you use the actual Webkit application, you
just have a newer engine than what Safari uses now. It will still look exactly
the same, but you will see
Hi,
Actually, you don't have to double-click the link, the link sometimes just
opens in the background with the Webkit page in the front. IF you read down the
Webkit page that it loads, though, you'll see a way to get your original
homepage instead.

Nic

Hi Nic,
I can't believe how responsive VoiceOver is since I switched to using Webkit as
my default browser. I thought it was great with Safari, but it's even more
impressive with Webkit. Thank you again for the help, it's truly appreciated.

I've just made that switch. Every time I open Web Kit I get this html content
that thanks me for using web kit. Is there any way to avoid that?

Hi,
yeah, and I've actually found, too, that Webkit is less busy than Safari is
which is pretty interesting.
If you really care, for those interested, you should join the Dev list perhaps
to add your own thoughts or improvements.

Yep. According to the page that comes up when you click the What happened to
my home page link, open terminal and paste this in:
defaults write org.webkit.nightly.WebKit StartPageDisabled -bool YES
and press return.
Works like a charm.

Webkit is in a way the raw code of safary. I would just run webkit instead. If
there is a way to run webkid all the time I dunno.
Take care.
