virtual machines do not shutdown immediately any longer but I’m not getting any

This bug affected both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs in the same way. Fusion
does indeed work on Apple Silicon, when not affected by this bug. The latest
Sonoma has fixed it; when I upgrade to the next minor point release, I'll see
if the fix is in there, but if not then it's the next major point
My Mac is Intel and VMware broke when I upgraded from Ventura to
Sonoma.

When I succeded with VMware on my 2013 era Macbook Air, I was unable to
get the Arch installer to talk, so went with Debian. That worked
wonderfully as long as the Air was my traveling laptop.

I don't know if you figured this out, but there is the snapshots menu item,
which is part of the virtual machine menu.
You have a list of all your saved snapshots which you can delete by using
the shortcut menu on a snapshot and selecting it. The delete button then
