I have 3 things to try that will not cost. But Scott pointed out
something important and that is the age of my router which has gray hair
now. So I will be shopping for a new router even if I get
ice, a wifi extender or a wireless router?

First recommendation: handyman with drill, good precision measure, and a length
of CAT6. If possible, cable is *always* the better option. Consult the other
half first if applicable, as this is sometimes known to cause domestic unrest.
You may also need to consult your landlord if this means
Apple TV.

AirPort Extreme in my opinion is the way to go. Very easy to configure, great
coverage, and just a good router.
