I had the same problem on the W126 300SD I found parking with engine
pointing down hill would prevent problem. The problem bothered me for about
8 months, then when I changed fuel filter I put new "O" rings on the fuel
filter banjo bolt and problem went away.

Spent the last 4 hours trying to remove the speedo cable where it stabs into
the tranny off take. The cross wise hold down bolt is loose all the way.
Car was up on pule up ramps and my big foot style body had trouble fitting
in the work area.
Problem was the speed o c

Probably doesn't want to pay the eBay listing fee for a driver.

Well, it's in Watertown, NY, so I would wager:

- no one around there can fix it
- the other usual suspect on that engine

Odd problem with my w126 300sd... this is a problem being made worse by cold
temps, but it's doing it even on warmer days when it was starting fine (even
before I adjusted the valves).
When you turn the key (after two glow cycles), it kicks strongly and fires
briefly, then dies. Then it just crank

The grill should fit. The differences in the 2 cars are in the rear door
area. The SEL is 4" longer in the rear doors. Both the 280SEL and 280SE
are W108s unless one is a Cabriolet (W111) or something other than a 4 door
sedan.
A W113 is a 230/250/280SL which is the 2 seat sports car of the

Well if I had a car that had 1 million on it and MB gave me a new car,
you can bet the new one would never make it to 1 million.

What sort of mileage will a 2.3 get? Thinking about getting one for a
work car and would like to get a 190D but they are scarce and when you
do find one they go for insane money. The 2.3's should be cheap and had
the added advantage of using it when diesel prices are high.

I installed a Bosch fast-glow kit in my 79 300TD, including the extra relay
and circuit breaker. Not real hard but it did create a small cluster of
extra parts on the wheel-well. The relay and CB are purely to power the 5th
glow plug. It works fine. On th3 other hand, many have reported powerin

An '82 240D should have the pencil type plugs in it.
If it has 2 or more dead the beast will be Extremely hard to start.
I just went thru this yesterday with the Wife's 240D. 3 of the 4 Dead.
You can get the Bosch Plug Part No. 80006 at Auto Zone for $9.99 ( Sorry

If you noticed when I replyed to messages here, I am the proud owner of a very
nice 72. It wasn't in perfect shape when I found it, but it was in drivable
condition. Just needed a little TLC since it sat for almost 2 years. The engine
is still very strong and everything except the radio works.
If its an 82 it should have the new style GPs. I would pull them and see
that they glow red hot, real quick. (+to outboard end of GP, - to
threads) hold GP in the vice. If you need new ones, stay away from Monarch
& Champion if you can. .Funky GPs are the cause of a high % of winter
