Replace the glow plugs and fuel filters! You may need to clean the tank and replace the tank screen as well from crud growing in there. Also check for leaking fuel lines on the suction side of the lift pump -- when the lines crack, air gets sucked in and it quits. Peter

Does it have a control rod between the IP AT or is there a vacuum connection between the IP and AT? If a control rod like my 78 240D there is a good likelyhood the bushing in the control rod at the AT end may be damaged or has fallen out. The dealer is likely to not show the bushing in his

W115 does not use vacuum on the diesel. Throttle control rod only (I think the gasser is the same). Change the fluid and filter -- when these sit, the shift control valve sticks and it either wont' upshift, or like my 220D, shifts into fourth at 25 mph, floored or not! Use the shift lever
