So it seems this is one that could have the rust issues... what I read
about this is that you can't really tell if there is a rust problem
without scraping off the body panel sealant that's used over the welds.
Is the problem common enough to warrant doing that?

On the trashed one I cut grooves in the pipe and peeled it like a banana. Then
drove the remnant off with a screwdriver and BFH. Oh what fun!

Its too late for this advice, but in the past I was able to break and
exhaust system free from the manifold by dropping it down off of all the
rubber hangers and swinging it side to side a bit from the end at the back
of the car. The torque on that length of pipe is huge.

96-98.5 Dodge then, it uses the P7100 inline pump.
My 1975 Dodge 1/2 ton was quite reliable. Would always
start no matter how long it had sat.
So unbolting the '83 exhaust at the flange worked well, the 2 bolts broke
nicely and it all came out. However I still couldn't get the front pipe
detached from the rest and I ended up cutting the first couple inches of the
front exhaust pipe. A quick trip to FLAPS got me a 2" exhaust pipe adapte

Really depends on just what you intend it for. If you want to haul a lot of
weight get a Ford or Dodge 3/4 or one ton. They do that best. If you want
someting that will haul household items, ride nice and get decent mpg then
look at a Chevy 1/2 ton with either the 4.3 or 350 if you want more pow
