Wilton, Did you ever hear the story about an experimental B-52 minimum
interval takeoff (MITO) technique where the aircraft were all parked in
formation at the approach end of the runway. Then they were all supposed to
do a simultaneous cartridge start followed almost immediately by takeoff.

There are two kinds, the non-chlorinated (usually a green can) and the
original chlorinated hydrocarbon stuff (red can). The latter works
better.
Sounds pretty tedious...

My 85 TD is a CA version and it is not particularly finicky.
There is no SLS on an 85 Benz.
The 85 transmission is way superior to earlier models.

Early B-52's laid down one heck of a smoke trail at takeoff power. The old
turbo-jets converted huge amounts of fuel into smoke and noise at low
altitude. More than one airplane would certainly add to the "carbon
footprint" as we now say.

I just remembered: Actually, it's 30 seconds between unlike aircraft; I
never took off behind an unlike aircraft (KC-135) during a MITO, so for me,
it was always 15 seconds, and it has been 31 years - shocking how I'm
beginning to forget.

Friends that flew KC-135s told me their mission was 1) take off with as much
fuel as possible, 2) proceed to assigned refueling orbit, and 3) refuel all
takers until recalled or all engines flamed out from fuel starvation.
They practiced 1&2. #1 usually meant computing max takeoff weight (based
