Andrew, I have have the same issue. Cupping your hand, taking a few
deep breaths and blowing warm air into the lock has worked for me every
time. Other than that, a small piece of tissue twisted and inserted
keeps the cold out.

You car only has I think a 55a alternator. Its not making 55a at idle.
The battery in the car has something like 100ah or more so at idle for an hour
you'd only charge the thing something like 25% at best. You're also limited by
the battery's ability to accept power. 10a is a fast charge. So
A 300TD turbo wagon with a 5 speed manual would be a dream!
