Could be. Remember the car Mercedes built that had several "topple-overs" in
Sweden which caused Mercedes to redesign them? Mercedes doesn't seem to pay
much attention to CG.

I think the Odometer issue is simply a slipping gear, solved by removing
and roughening the shaft, then press it back on?
Don't know for sure, have been living without a working odometer in The
White Whale for years now.

There is a guy on BenzWorld who has been rebuilding cruise amps and ACC stuff
for some time that does a really good job at a reasonable price. He did the
cruise amp for my 350SDL for around $60. Works great.

My1971 300SEL 3.5 V8 W109 sedan had plenty of pep with a 4 speed auto
transmission. Tobacco brown with cognac leather interior. Fun to drive
