I re-used the captive nuts from the old radiator but they would not stay put!
Perhaps the teeth on the old nuts were worn off? How is the oil cooler held in
place without being bolted to the radiator? I didn’t see any options where a
friction fit would work.

The key to front wheel bearing longevity is 2 things:
1. Never let the kid at the corner (garage, big box store, tar store,
stealer, brake shop, etc ) EVER touch your wheel bearings.
2. Don't cook the grease out.

to side, up and down, in and out and I do not feel any looseness, tunk or bad
sounds.
Are there other ways to check for a bad wheel bearing that I am not doing? I
do not have a gauge to measure end play.

Yeah, since he’s a director I think that would have some effect on my longevity

Check for a thrown or broken wheel weight too -- they don't always get crimped
on perfectly and the lead can break off.
And, has anyone curbed that wheel recently? A bent rim will give a rotational
speed thump. I know, I have two or three on the Golf. Need to bite the bullet
