Something isn’t right with that car or seller... it’s been listed for a
long time on NYC Craigslist also. Likely a scam... it should be sold by
now.

Some Okie Chrome and plastic and yer good to go. $500 would be my max if I

Why could it be a scam? For all intents and purposes, it's the type of car
that nobody would want. At that price.

Good luck going about your daily life without ever purchasing an item that
was made in China. Might as well become a survivalist.

$4500 is a great price for a W123 wagon... hes been advertising it since
August. Something doesn't add up. If it was local, I'd have bought it.
I think its the same guy selling this 5 speed R129:

Not only are MB parts made in China now... they're making whole Mercedes

I’m assuming “stator” is starter.
Remind me what that it is that would need to be done if the starter is ticking
on the flywheel.

I’ve already looked at the first one you listed. It is likely what I’ll get.
The paint is absolutely toast, but I can live with that.
That was the first 124 I’ve ever driven. The shifting of its transmission or
something I wasn’t familiar with. I think I remember asking questions about
that.

Yes. As Rick already pointed out, when Deming was speaking, US
manufacturers turned a deaf ear, but the Japanese listened.

That first one looks pretty good. Glow plugs are a real pain, hopefully none
are broken off in the head. If all the glow plugs are good, and the evaporator
doesn't leak, that's a great car. Ugly paint, but solid ride.

There is something icky about it. Paint over everything doesn’t help. The left
lower quarter appears to have had a rust repair but the contours were done
wrong-too squared off. This is a common way to fix rust by amateurs with no
real metal fab skills.

I still go out of my way to buy made in USA, Europe, or any other country that

My buddy is a technical consultant. Does work for a big korean carmaker.

And lest we forget - only Mercedes Benz owners carry an expectation that
their vehicles will last for years and years, plus drive for at least a
million miles.
