The Neutral Safety Switch has a setting hole for a drill blank to line-up
the switch and selector position.
When you look at it, it will be obvious how it goes. Cannot remember
off-hand if it is Park or N position for alignment.

Ok, thanks! I guess I need one. I can't see how putting a bushing in
the shift lever could have screwed up the backup light switch. Maybe
it did.

Neutral lockout switch contains the contacts for the back-up lights, just one
swtich, one connection. It's on the side of the transmission, prevents
starting in gear AND turns on the back-up lights in reverse.

I had issue with a Kali car almost 30 years ago. Somehow that state wanted
money for me to purchase the car from an Oregon seller who had not titled the
car properly. That was a giant PITA because on the way home with the car, I

I was under the impression that a switch on the back of the auto
transmission turned on the backup lights when the trans was shifted to
R. What I am reading says that the neutral lockout switch also is the
reverse switch. Anyone know for sure where the switch is for the backup
lights?
We read the codes on the 124 gassers by the flashes and/voltmeter. I
don't remember how many pins the connector had, but #1 daughter figured
them out, so I would read the flashes or voltage per pin and she would
read the "code" meaning to me. We made a good team.
Thanks for posting this info

Do you take a wire brush to it (hand, drill, or angle grinder) and go at

I’ll be getting an MB rebuilt pump from the stealership tomorrow, since they’re
only about $150. Anything else to watch out for?
My crank pulley seal leaks, too, so this might be a good time to do it. Anyone
know if I need a puller to get the crank pulley off?
