Not really sure, the roof vents don’t blow, but I’m not sure if they are
supposed to or not. Seems I read somewhere they don’t blow unless needed. I

The real irony here is that the only place I’ve been able to find some sort of
adapter that converts from the 7 pin to 4 pin connector while also
accommodating LED trailer lights is at UHaul:

Good work! You learned something with all that sweat and effort!
I think my CL has some LED replacement bulbs in the headlights. They work fine
but I get a whole bunch of warning messages on the instrument cluster. Might be
some in the taillights as well. I haven’t chased them down yet since

Kudos to Jim for confirming the pull up voltage theory!
I believe there has been a comedy of errors that led to this situation:
1.) The voltage at the 7 pin socket is a “pull up” voltage from the SAM and
won’t carry any current to speak of.
2.) This voltage, while minimal, was enough to light
I finished up the GL compressor replacement and am happy to report it’s blowing
ice cold. Once question though. A smaller line branches off from the big low
side line off the compressor before both enter the firewall. The big one goes
to expansion valve and the smaller one that branches off

The u haul trailer we rented a while back was all LED. Everyone I have seen for

Yes that could be. I know when I have hooked a trailer up to the GL it will say
what certain bulbs are out on the trailer.

Thanks for the insight, Jim, I was wondering this as well since the SAM drives
it directly. However, when it was plugged into a “real” trailer we still got
nothing.
I’ve got an 1157 lamp with some leads soldered to it - I’m going to try that on
each terminal and see what happens.

The 7pin should be a standard pin out (duh) as should the 4pin (duh). The issue
seems to be in the adapter if you are getting proper power at the 7 socket on
the car. Did you measure continuity on the adapter between the proper in<->out
pins/sockets? Or plug it in then work the lights, brakes,

Nope.
Just finished running a full set of diagnostics with SDS. I am confused.
Rear SAM controls the trailer (550) system. SDS recognizes the option. SAM
reports no codes/errors/faults. Power is at and through both fuses (70 & 71).
Relay KL checks out, but power at the fuses verifies that it’s

OK, I get that the W164 has an OE trailer wiring system - my ML550 has the
towing package option. Here’s my issue:
The stock plug on the vehicle is a round, 7 pin connector, fairly common. I got
a 4 pin to 7 pin adapter from the Island of Large Wimmen so that I could use a
UHaul trailer today.
From what I've read, the parts themselves are not too expensive. It's just that
you can't do the repair with the engine in the car, too much has to be taken
apart.

repairs to the rear bumper proved more costly than the initial insurance
