Rick, IIRC, the early 123 chassis uses an inner CV joint which requires you
to remove the rear diff cover, in order to pry out the circlip holding in
the axle stub. I think the later versions use an inner joint which bolts on
to the CV flange externally.

That Jetta may or may not have the "eco-diesel" engine, which has a turbo,

I know next to nothing about those rigs, but I think they're super cool. If
you do end up grabbing it, let me know, 'cause I'd love a chance to check
one out.

If a door has a keyhole, then it should both lock and unlock via that door.
If the OM601 engine is anything like my OM603, then you shouldn't have much
deflection at all in your serpentine belt. I'd look to the tensioner pivot
to see if it's sitting at an angle to the timing chain cover.

Hmmm, I guess I'll have to check mine to see what you're talking about.

How do you intend to hold the crank when you re-torque the new balancer?

My Vanagon could easily handle 7 people, without requiring 2 of them to sit
in the way back and stare at the fools behind you...though, two of them
would have to stare at the three sitting in the back seat.

I suspect that you'll be able to see the bent valves by the height of the
valve stems once the cam's out.

Well, I pulled the blower (without the benefit of a manual), and the brushes
