Well if so then its 2 different leaks. On mine, it was leaking from the
c clip area, so I just pulled one off another trans and swapped it in.
Stupid me I didnt replace the big o-ring under the assembly and it
leaked from there. So I had to pull it apart again. Thats the hard
part, trying to
Seems like the C-clip and the bolts. There's some red gasket sealer already in
the area that's oozed out from a previous seal attempt.

while back. Its a bitch to mess with. Is yours leaking from the c clip
area on the center of the pump or from where the pump mounts to the tranny?

I would have to look to be sure, but I think by 86 the
castle nut was no longer used. I'm not sure of the size.

At least on my '91 300d its a 12 point nut. While (I think) its

No, I don't think so. I think it's one of the 30mm 12-point

I think so. Certainly so on a 450 SL. I bought the seal
for when the tranny was out, but it looked good and didn't
leak, and I determined to replace it in-car if it ever did
leak. Didn't ever leak, I sold the car six years later,
and still have the seal in a box somewhe

You need whatever socket removes the tailshaft nut. May be
castle, more likely 12-point. After that I think it's a standard

It's a 12-point deep socket, but I forget the size. 27mm? I
always meant to get one. What I have is the special castle

I need any special tools (other than the tranny lift) to perform this?
I don't think you need any special tools to do a tailshaft seal,
except whatever socket you need to release the nut. The tranny
stays in place.

I believe you need a special socket for the tail shaft nut. I think it
has a retainer too, but a chisel will fold that back out.
