The ride with the taxi springs is more firm. It also better handles
loads in the seats and trunk. The RR also give more ground clearance.
I suspect they are similar to the rate of normal springs, but have more
travel. In other words, RR and taxi are similar, but taxi is stiffer.
Both prob
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing when I read that. Some questions are best

Oh, I’m replacing them for sure. New springs from Mercedes are relatively
inexpensive, about $100/each depending on the part number.
I’m just trying to work out the logistics so I don’t have a disassembled car in
the garage for a week or two…

I'm with Jaime, the springs on the car are likely tired and may even be
broken. How expensive are replacements?

You can still used the klann spring compressor on the front end... put the
lower plate under the control arm and the upper plate as high up as
possible on the spring. Makes things much less frightening!
If you don't want to mark up the lower control arm (which is an issue after
powder coating), j
Its not always very clear... the original springs have multiple colors on
them that don't always correspond to what the manual/TDM says. Last time I
ordered replacement springs for a W108 (rear), they came with two red
marks, which made selecting the pads easy at that point.
I recommend ordering
The surface of the springs are pretty rusted or corroded from the looks of
things. I haven’t tried cleaning them yet but I may to see if there are any
paint marks visible.
The manual doesn’t mention a spring compressor, although I do have one. It
says to use a floor jack and remove the inside
BTW, the front end goes much easier with a spring compressor, but can be
done without. without, I'd unbolt the 2 bolts on the inside of the LCA
that hold the bar to the subframe, then lower the LCA with a floor jack.

yes, that is how the book does it. are you saying there are no paint
marks left or are you saying you have not looked at them? The paint
marks have been very durable but it is now 53 years since they were put on.
it all depends on the ride height you want. When I did the springs on

I DO have it. I’ve identified the springs, but trying to figure out which
spring pad to purchase is a real puzzle.
I can get it down to a certain point, then the manual says you need the paint
mark color on the spring for the final determination. I was hoping to be able
to get everything at on
I can hardly wait for the part where you refinish all the wood. That is a
ton of work.

It is in the chassis manual. DO you have it. There are lots of choices
