That would be a great improvement. However, the current crop from MB
is so ugly in the front end I sure like the looks of a 124
better or even a 210.

I would not. I'd check the compressor manifold O-rings for leakage.

There is a test, but I'll have to check with my brother -- it
involves bypassing the motor speed controller.
If the motor is bad, replace it, usually the bearings go out and it
locks up. Brushes are in crimped holders, replacement is iffy, and
if the bearings are bad won't fix the real pro

Fan can be accessed separately by removing wiper assembly.
Anybody know a way he can apply 12V DC directly to the fan for operational
check?

I replaced the brushes of a blower fan on my previous 124, a few years ago.
I recall removal of the wiper assembly was not as bad as it first looks.
But the brushes were only half the problem with the fan. The bearings were
bad and the shaft was corroded.
I did not have the time or to buy a n

Ok, well I feel better already. It was a real chore to get the evap
then heater motor out of a 115. I was not looking forward to
crawling under the dash for 3 days or more. Guess I'd better read up
on taking apart the monowiper.
So is the fix new brushes, or is a new motor a better soluti

100%! The blower fan is under the wiper motor, but you can't get the
evaporator out from that side unless you want to take a Sawzall to the
firewall.

Calm down.
Based on what I read from you today, you will most likely find a lose
pigtail when you remove the kick panel.
