The thin plastic cover behind the battery is long gone. That in

Been around for a long time.
Essentially silicone sealant that is runny, the consistency of syrup, for
example. I can recall using it to seal a windshield in a W114 back in the 90s.
Look for it at FLAPS or possibly a home improvement store?

tpically it's a sunroof drain on a W124 since they are much less prone
to rust that a W123, but check the drain for the base of the

I took out the remains of the battery tray. Underneath was a hole

on the POSitive 300D, (87 300D, 124) water is getting into the
passenger side floorboards (front and rear) when it rains. I think
it is coming in the front and running aft, as the car is pared on a

I'm getting that water in my wagon as well, I've had the carpet out for months

EPC research indicate three different possible part numbers: 124 780 00 98
is sunroof seal for ~$117. 124 782 04 98 is sunroof weatherstrip front
for ~$9 and 124 682 00 97 is sunroof weatherstrip rear for ~$13.
I'm tempted to order all three. The seal installed in my car is in two

you could buy a tube of the peelable weatherstripping caulk, and seal
up the sunroof with that before spending the $117 plus freight. If
the leak stops after sealing the sunroof, then you can decide to
sunroof or treat it as a Wilton roof.

Parking the car pointed uphill will eliminate or greatly reduce the water
incursion. Water only appears on the passenger side floor.
Today I checked the sunroof drains (two in front corners), they are both clear.
I ran weed-wacker cord down each, followed by gently pouring water down each.
sliding pads were replaced with new, and the rails properly lubed
The cable tube can need lube too.

MItch, that would be news to me. I don't think there is any computer
involved, just switch, motor, and relays.

Sounds like it needs gleitpaste, the special MB lube, which I believe
is a high moly content grease for the sunroof glides. (or the cable
may be messed up) You can buy a sunroof cable.
Rusty used to pack gleitpaste in small tins, like for perc caps. for
a reasonable price.
MB only sells

Does dousing it with a garden hose cause water incursion?
Can you narrow down the entry point that way?
