The pre-chamber is $244 new from Rusty. Or $204 per his generous offer.
I have managed to clean up the threads on the original, install injector
and torque to spec.
I cannot, however, find an '87 190DT for $200 within a reasonable radius
of Boston, or anywhere else for that matter

New: $300. Good used: $200, and comes in recyclable packaging.
Sounds like a no-brainer to me!

I don't, however, need a hole filled.

I think with a 87 and a 90-93 OM602 one would have vertical injection and the
other inclined, which would mean different heads and prechambers at least.

FYI - this isn't thte hole in the head - the pre-chamber is inserted into
the head, a locking ring holds in the head, and the injector screws into the
pre-chamber. I read the problem as being the injector holding htreads inside
the pre-chamber. I could have mis-read however.
