Kevin, if you have the manual look up 14-050 for
the 123.123 (240D). That has both the older and
the newer 81 on picture description and vacuum
diagrams for the 240D.
If you don't have it let me know and I will try to
send it to you.

Yours may not be equipped as my 78 was, but mine had a rod running
across the Valve Cover then to the R. side of the tranny . at the
tranny end (or perhaps behind the engine/over the tranny there is a
pressed in bushing which can make for very sloppy shifting. It's hard
to get to but easy to
ed by throttle linkages) to
simulate manifold vacuum of a gas engine.

vcv on my 81 is on top of the valve cover. Get the diagram from FSM Or
from Sunvalley. Different trans from a 300D.

Kevin,
The valves on the top of the valve cover manage the EGR, I believe, so they
wouldn’t affect shift points.
There should
search sunvalley mercedes transmission. somewhere in the archives Marc
should have the vacuum diagram and adjusting instructions for 82 240D.

There should be a VCV (vacuum control valve) on top of the injection pump that
is the major player in the shift/vacuum function. Vacuum goes to the VCV and
then to the vacuum modula
We took Hildegard out for a test drive today, and she seems to be running
better since the valve adjustment. The shift points seem to occur at specific
speed and engine RPM rather than throttle positions. All vac lines leading
inside the car are disconnected and capped, but all of the lines atop
